One of the most talked about viral ads of the year has got to be Van Damme’s epic splits between two reversing Volvo Trucks. But Volvo Trucks have in fact been creating a whole video series of live tests to highlight the power and precision of the Volvo vehicles. Quite frankly, these are all excellent ways of showing something informative about the product in the name of entertainment, and creating a buzz around a video which is worth watching in its own right. And one of the best of these in 2013 is The Hamster Stunt.

Whilst a significant budget would have been required, the cost of this video was in no way the same league as the Van Damme epic – just showing that a good idea doesn’t always need a celebrity figure and huge creative team to make it a success. Little Charlie’s driving skills have been viewed over 5m times on YouTube.
